Vegetarian Treatment of All Meat Syndrome

Domestic cats and dogs can suffer from all-meat syndrome. In the wild, felines and canines eat not only the meat, but the bones, stomach and intestines of their prey, as well as smaller amounts of fruit and vegetables. As their prey were predominantly herbivores (plant eaters), the stomach contents balanced the meat portion of the dog or cat’s diet.

Feeding a modern dog or cat meat alone is both unnatural and unbalanced.  This carnivorous diet is known as All Meat Syndrome. The official veterinary definition of all meat syndrome is a “nutritional secondary hyperparathyroidism with osteodystrophia fibrosa in dogs and cats, resulting from the high phosphorus and low calcium content of a diet consisting mainly of meat.” Essentially, the pet can be overwhelmed with the amount of phosphorus from the meat and suffers from a lack of other vital nutrients such as calcium.

The result is a decrease in hormone production, a lower metabolic rate and a soft skeletal system. The pet can display a generally poor condition with extreme cases resulting in death.

To balance the pet’s diet, snacks such as All Natural Vegetarian Ears or Pumpkin Powered® Fruitables™ could be fed to pets throughout the day. These treats offer convenience compared to adding vegetables to their meals. Fruitables™ and Vegetarian Ears do not compromise the pets’ health and do not decrease the benefits of meat in their meals. Both Fruitables™ and All Natural Vegetarian Ears are very low in fat and sodium to balance the natural fats found in meat based meals.

Packed with all natural ingredients and fortified with essential minerals and vitamins, Fruitables™ and All Natural Vegetarian Ears are snacks developed to balance a pet’s diet and keep All Meat Syndrome at bay.
